The story behind the Tribute Collection Remembering Our Heroes

The story behind the Tribute Collection Remembering Our Heroes

Since the centenary of the landings at Gallipoli, Lifewear is proud to be a major part of helping all Australians commemorate and remember those who served by means of the original Tribute Apparel Collection. In the following weeks, let us give you some insights into how and why these incredible designs were created.

The Remembering Our Heroes polo focuses on commemorating the ANZACs at the Gallipoli Peninsula during the first World War in 1915.

At approximately 3 am, the waves of ANZAC troops began to arrive at what is now known as ANZAC Cove. Partially due to the pitch dark timing of arrival, the casted landing boats were pushed a few kilometres further than intended. The ANZACS pushed forward and in waves, began climbing Ari Burnu under heavy fire, losing many members of their troops to gunshots.

We owe our thanks and respect to the soldiers for fighting for our individual freedom and liberty. The birds flying in the sky around the chest of the polo are a tribute to our heroes. With their ability to roam the earth as well as soar up into the sky, birds symbolise freedom.

 DID YOU KNOW?

Lifewear has received an official, special endorsement from the Brand Manager of the Australian Army for the usage of the 3rd pattern – The Rising Sun Badge.

This special insignia was worn by all soldiers of the 1st and 2nd Australian Imperial Force in both WW1 and WW2. This version of the rising sun badges incorporated a scroll which had the words “Australian Commonwealth Military Forces” inscribed.

The Red Poppy was the first to flower in the battlefields of France and Belgium in WW1. Soldiers folklore believe that the bright red poppy came from their comrades’ blood in the ground. The Red Poppy is on the left shoulder of the polo as well as the front and back to commemorate this.

The back of the polo shows the silhouette of a standing soldier and a nurse, as well as the SS River Clyde in the background. The SS River Clyde was adapted in early 1915 to serve as a landing ship for the British and French invasion of the Gallipoli Peninsula.

Our original Tribute Collection delivers a respectful polo shirt style with commemorating all men and women who served Australia and New Zealand. Discover the whole range here ➜ and select your favourite design.
